2016 CCMA Spotlight Performance Contest

Calling all Manitoba Country Music Artists!

The Manitoba Country Music Association (“MCMA”) and the CCMA are partnering once again for the CCMA Spotlight Performance Contest

Country Music Week® 2016, being held this year in London, Ontario from September 8-11 is just around the corner – and we want to help you get there.

The MCMA is once again running a contest in tandem with the Canadian Country Music Association ® (CCMA®) for your chance to win a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play alongside Canada’s brightest country music stars and most cherished legends during the Canadian country music industry’s largest annual event.

How it works:
Each province has been asked to select one country music act/artist (Act) to represent their province in the annual “CCMA Spotlight Performance Contest” (National Contest).

When all the participating provincial Acts from across Canada are chosen for the National Contest, the selected Acts will be highlighted via an online poll (which will not be administered through a social media platform, but rather a stand-alone URL ), set to go live on June 7, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. ET. That’s the time for (province) to shine! Each province will promote their Act and encourage the public to vote. Each voter can only place one (1) vote for who they would like to see perform during Country Music Week (only one vote per IP address will be accepted).

The National Contest will run for 10 days, and will close on June 17, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. ET. The Act that receives the most votes on the poll by the time the National Contest closes will win a performance spot at a public, official CCMA-sanctioned event during Country Music Week 2016. The winner of the CCMA Spotlight Performance Contest will be announced at 9:00 a.m. ET on June 27, 2016.

Acts that are interested in representing Manitoba on this National Contest are required to email their submission (requirement details below) to the MCMA at by MIDNIGHT May 8th,2016

Note: You must be a resident of Manitoba and a MCMA Industry member to be eligible

Submission Requirements (to be emailed to the MCMA -

  • Two Songs (MP3 format or links)
  • Artist Bio (no more than 50 words)
  • One Promotional Photo (JPEG Print quality)
  • Social Media Platforms (please include links to social media outlets you use (i.e., link to Facebook artist page, twitter account, website etc)

All Manitoba submissions will be juried by the MCMA, and one successful Act will be selected to move on to the National Contest for their chance to win a performance spot during Country Music Week® in London, Ontario, at a public, official CCMA-sanctioned event.

What the National Contest winner receives:

There is only one (1) prize awarded, which goes to the Winner. The prize consists of:

  • One (1) performance spot at a public, official CCMA-sanctioned event during Country Music Week 2016
  • One (1) CCMA membership (one-year duration)

March 17, 2016 (Dauphin MB) -- Dauphin’s Countryfest is pleased to release the full list of artists slated to perform at Canada’s longest running country music festival, taking place from June 30-July 3.

“It’s our goal to provide fans with an exceptional and well-rounded music festival experience, and it all starts with the artists we bring out to Dauphin,” says Eric Irwin, president of Dauphin’s Countryfest. “It’s no secret that the Canadian dollar is presenting challenges to the entertainment business. Despite that, Dauphin’s Countryfest is happy to be presenting one stellar line-up this year.”

This year’s line-up includes classic and modern country, rock, blues, roots and folk – a little bit of something for everyone. “We are pumped to bring back our Countryfest Kick-Off Party Thursday night on the Hilltop, featuring acts like Trooper, Blackjack Billy and more,” says Countryfest promoter Rob Waloschuk. “We haven’t done a Kick-Off Party on the Hilltop since 2008, so we’re very excited to be bringing back this tradition.”

The Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries Main Stage gears up on Friday to celebrate Canada Day, with the biggest names in Canadian country headlined by fan-favourites Dean Brody and Dallas Smith. The 27th annual Dauphin’s Countryfest takes place June 30-July 3, 2016. Canada’s longest running country music festival has been attracting the biggest names in country music to one of the most beautiful regions of Manitoba since 1990. Situated on the edge of Riding Mountain National Park, the unique outdoor amphitheatre built into the side of an escarpment provides every patron a perfect view from any one of the 14,000 seats in the house.

Dauphin’s Countryfest is a not-for-profit organization that consists of a 12-member volunteer Board of Directors and a membership of more than 2000 loyal supporters. Organizers credit over 2000 volunteers who work tirelessly each year providing essential services for the festival weekend, while fundraising for their respective community organizations. In addition to various community contributions, Countryfest pays out approximately $150,000 each year to community organizations that provide services for the festival.

Dauphin’s Countryfest was named a finalist at the prestigious Canadian Tourism Awards in 2013, nominated in the category of Tourism Event of the Year. The festival was also awarded the 2012 Philanthropist of the Year Award from The Dauphin & District Community Foundation, given to individuals or businesses that show the true spirit of philanthropy and giving.

Both “Tumbleweeds” and “Cool Water” have been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

2016 CCMA Discovery Program Announced
2016 marks the fourth year for the CCMA Discovery Program- a national initiative, developed to support Canadian country music artists as they endeavor to reach their full potential in the music industry. The program provides unparalleled educational, mentorship, networking and exposure opportunities unlike any other opportunity offered in the country genre.

The CCMA is extremely proud of the way this program has grown over the years, and of how the Canadian country music community has embraced this venture. Applying is simple, and the opportunities are endless. The CCMA Discovery Program has certainly opened a number of doors for the finalists who have experienced it over the years.

The 2016 CCMA Discovery Program will include the following components:
1.Music Industry Discovery Week
3.Country Music Week Discovery Showcase
4.CCMA Discovery Award

Music Industry Discovery Week: The six (6) selected acts (finalists) will be flown to Toronto for a week (April 24 - 29, 2016) to learn, in-depth, about the music business and artist development; including: industry-led information sessions, branding and media training, media interviews and the opportunity to perform at a private industry showcase.

Mentorship: The CCMA will pair each of the selected acts (finalists) with an established Canadian act for mentorship purposes. This connection will be made following Music Industry Discovery Week and prior to Country Music Week 2016 in London.

Country Music Week Discovery Showcase: This three-hour showcase (formerly known as the CCMA New Artist Showcase) spotlights the six selected acts (finalists) during Canada's largest recognized celebration of country music (Country Music Week) and is an official CCMA-sanctioned event. With full concert production, and backed by a house band, each act will have the opportunity to perform in front of the music industry and fans alike.
